The Breeders’ Cup 2026 returns to Keeneland Race Course in Lexington for two days of elite Thoroughbred racing. The 43rd World Championships will feature 14 Grade 1 races and more than $34 million in purses and awards. The Breeders’ Cup 2026 will take place on Friday, 30 October, and Saturday, 31 October, at Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, Kentucky.
This will be the fourth time Keeneland has hosted the World Championships. Situated in the heart of Kentucky’s Thoroughbred industry, the racecourse combines historic architecture, an intimate racing atmosphere, and close connections to the country’s leading horse farms.

Future Stars Friday provides an early look at horses that could become leading names during the following racing season. Five championship races are reserved for two-year-olds, with contests held across dirt and turf.
The Breeders’ Cup Juvenile acts as the centrepiece of the programme. Run over 1 1/16 miles on dirt, the race can offer an early indication of horses likely to enter the following year’s American Triple Crown conversation.
Saturday, 31 October: Championship Saturday
Championship Saturday brings together older horses and leading three-year-olds across sprint, mile, middle-distance, and staying divisions. The programme includes the Breeders’ Cup Distaff, Turf, Mile, Sprint, and Classic.
Official post times and the final race order are scheduled to be announced on 21 October 2026.

The Breeders’ Cup Classic 2026 will be the headline contest of Championship Saturday. Run over 1¼ miles on dirt, the Grade 1 race is open to horses aged three and older and carries a purse of $7 million.
The Classic brings together leading American dirt horses and international challengers, with victory shaping championship honours, breeding value, and racing legacy.
Attention will gradually turn towards the final field as horses qualify through the Breeders’ Cup Challenge Series. Winners of selected Win and You’re In races receive an automatic starting position in the corresponding championship contest. The 2026 series includes qualifying races across 14 countries, creating a global route towards Keeneland.
