Nations Championship Finals 2026: A new rugby weekend at Twickenham

Nations Championship Finals 2026

The Nations Championship Finals 2026 will bring a new format of international rugby to London from 27–29 November 2026, when all 12 participating nations converge on Allianz Stadium. Six North-v-South matches will be played across three double-header days, culminating in a first-v-first Grand Final on Sunday. As the inaugural Nations Championship Finals Weekend, it gives supporters the opportunity to see multiple leading international teams in one stadium.

How the Nations Championship Finals Weekend works

The Nations Championship 2026 brings together England, France, Ireland, Italy, Scotland, and Wales from the Northern Hemisphere with Argentina, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Fiji, and Japan from the Southern Hemisphere. Each team plays six cross-hemisphere matches: three during the July Southern Series and another three during November’s Northern Series.

Once those six rounds are complete, teams are ranked from first to sixth within their respective hemisphere. Finals Weekend then matches equivalent positions against each other: sixth plays sixth, fifth plays fifth, and so on, culminating in first North vs first South in the Nations Championship final.

Every match also counts towards the Hemisphere Challenge. One point is awarded for each of the first five North-v-South contests, while the Grand Final is worth two, creating seven available points across the weekend. The first hemisphere to four wins the Hemisphere Challenge.

Nations Championship Finals 2026 schedule

The Nations Championship schedule concludes with three consecutive double-headers at Allianz Stadium. Friday pairs the sixth- and third-ranked teams, Saturday features the fifth- and second-ranked sides, and Sunday’s programme ends with the tournament’s first Grand Final.

Who could reach the Nations Championship final?

After the July stage, France lead the Northern Hemisphere with 12 points, followed by Scotland on 11, with England and Ireland both on 10. That leaves four teams separated by only two points heading into November.

The Southern Hemisphere has a different shape. South Africa and New Zealand are both unbeaten on 15 points, with South Africa currently first on points difference. Australia sit third on eight points and Argentina fourth on seven. With every team still having three fixtures to play, the final seedings remain open.

Several November matches could therefore have a major influence on the top positions. France host South Africa on 13 November, while England face New Zealand and Ireland meet South Africa in the final round on 21 November. Results from those fixtures will determine which two nations earn the first-ever first-v-first showdown at Twickenham.

Why this Nations Championship rugby weekend is different

What distinguishes the Nations Championship rugby finale from a conventional series of autumn internationals is its concentration. Instead of major nations playing across different cities and stadiums, all 12 teams come together at one venue for a single decisive weekend. Each ticketed day is structured as a double-header, creating the possibility of seeing four leading international sides during one visit to Twickenham.

The format also means Friday and Saturday are not simply supporting programmes for Sunday’s title match. Every team has a final placing to contest, while every result contributes towards the Hemisphere Challenge. From sixth against sixth through to the first-v-first Grand Final, each match has a defined competitive purpose.

For travelling supporters, the format also creates a natural rugby weekend in London. Guests can build a stay around one double-header or spend several days in the capital, combining international rugby with dining, entertainment, and other exclusive experiences before the tournament reaches its climax on Sunday afternoon.
