Miami Art Week 2026 in three days: Build an itinerary without trying to see everything

Miami Art Week 2026

Miami Art Week 2026 brings the international art world to South Florida, with major fairs, museum exhibitions, and private events filling the calendar. From Art Basel Miami Beach to smaller contemporary fairs and cultural experiences, there is far more to discover than any visitor could cover in one trip. Rather than trying to attend everything, this Miami Art Week itinerary focuses on 4–6 December, combining the major highlights with enough flexibility to enjoy Miami beyond its exhibition halls.

Day 1 – Art Basel Miami Beach and Design Miami

4 December is an ideal starting point for exploring two of the week’s biggest attractions: Art Basel Miami Beach and Design Miami. Both are located around the Miami Beach Convention Center, making them a convenient pairing for the first day.

Start with Art Basel Miami Beach 2026, featuring 272 exhibitors from over 40 countries and territories. Its redesigned layout offers a more focused viewing experience. Prioritise a few galleries or explore Zero 10: Generation, featuring digital art by Refik Anadol, Jon Rafman, and Sarah Meyohas.

Afterwards, visit Design Miami 2026, running from 1 to 6 December. The fair explores collectible furniture, craftsmanship, and contemporary design, with its 2026 theme, Unveiling, highlighting the creative stories and techniques behind design objects.

End the day with a relaxed dinner in Miami Beach or a private gathering if one is on your schedule. After two major fairs, there’s no need to squeeze in another exhibition.

Day 2 – Discover contemporary art and South Beach

Saturday offers a more relaxed side of Miami Art Week events, combining contemporary art with South Beach’s coastal atmosphere. Start at The Bass, a leading contemporary art museum on Collins Avenue.

Highlights for 2026 include Sarah Zapata: Against a State of Malevolence, featuring immersive textile installations exploring identity and heritage. The museum also presents works by Japanese artist Yuko Mohri, known for combining everyday objects, sound, and movement.

Next, visit Untitled Art Miami Beach, running from 2 to 6 December. Its 15th edition brings together more than 160 galleries, artist-run spaces, and nonprofits from 38 countries, showcasing emerging artists and experimental works in a beachfront setting.

Rather than squeezing in another fair, leave time to enjoy South Beach. A leisurely dinner, a walk along Ocean Drive, or an evening cultural event offers a refreshing end to the day.

Day 3 – Explore Downtown Miami’s art scene

On Sunday, 6 December, head to Downtown Miami, where museums and waterfront art fairs offer a different perspective on the city’s creative scene.

Start at Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM), one of the leading Miami art museums. It is known for its contemporary art collections and striking architecture by Herzog & de Meuron.

Highlights during Miami Art Week 2026 include Picasso–Klee–Matisse: Masterpieces from the Museum Berggruen, featuring nearly 100 works, and Basquiat: Figures, Signs, Symbols, exploring the artist’s distinctive visual language.

Afterwards, visit Art Miami and CONTEXT Art Miami at One Herald Plaza. Both run through 6 December, with Art Miami showcasing modern and contemporary works from international galleries, while CONTEXT focuses on emerging and mid-career artists.

How to enjoy Miami Art Week without overplanning

With so many fairs, exhibitions, and private gatherings taking place, the biggest challenge during Miami Art Week is often deciding what to leave out.

A good starting point is to choose one major attraction each day and build around it. Grouping visits geographically also helps: spend the first two days exploring Miami Beach before moving to Downtown Miami on the third. This avoids unnecessary journeys between venues and leaves more time to enjoy each experience.

Visitors interested in Miami Art Week VIP access should plan further ahead. Art Basel Miami Beach holds its VIP Preview Days on 2 and 3 December, before the public opening. Other fairs offer their own preview opportunities and premium admission options, with benefits and eligibility varying by event.
